Responsible Consumerism

The Singapore Youth for Climate Action (SYCA) invited Connected Threads Asia to be resource persons at their Learning and Leadership Programme. SYCA was formed by four amazing ladies, Melissa Chong, Cuifen Pui, Juliana Chia and Nor Lastrina Hamid, as a platform for young Singapore residents to join hands in action in response to climate change.

The aim of the three-month Learning and Leadership Programme is to deepen youth knowledge on climate-related topics in the local context; and secondly understand self better, and enhance skills needed to start movements.

We were very honoured to be part of this programme, and it was perfect timing that our session was on the 23rd April, the day before our event, Fashion Revolution Day. We were even more excited to know that the second half of the morning would involve a Skype session with the renowned Erin Schrode, a young citizen activist based in the US and who is also running for Congress!

Our exploratory session started off with getting participants to look at their own values, the clothes that they own, and working as teams to come up with what they would think is a sustainable garment. There was definitely a lot of creative juices flowing, and I think we could possibly see some of the ideas on the market soon!

Thank you to SYCA for allowing us to share our thoughts on sustainable fashion and responsible consumption at the programme. If you would like to engage Connected Threads Asia in talks or workshops, please contact Agatha at agatha@connectedthreadsasia.com
