Behind the Label
On 23rd October, Connected Threads Asia held the Behind the Label event. Our objectives were to bring the sustainable fashion stakeholders together to explore how sustainable fashion brands and businesses in Singapore are sharing their values across the fashion supply chain, and the challenges faced.
The Singapore premiere of award winning documentary, Cotton Road started off the event, followed by a panel discussion with industry experts, Pascal de Villepin (Director VEJA-Asia), Wuen Lin Tan (Co-Founder, Touch the Toes) and Dragos Necula (Co-Founder, Etrican).
With close to 100 audience members, we had a thought provoking discussion when the session was open for Q&A. Questions ranged from whether brands could measure the impact of their work with communities to how can sustainability go beyond the manufacturing supply chain. Watch the video of the full event to find out more.

The event was well received by the participants:
"Attending Behind The Label was a wonderful opportunity to meet a diverse audience from makers of sustainable fashion to people from various ngos focussed on sustainability in different ways. That's where the magic happens when people who impact the different aspects of the fashion supply chain come together over a documentary, panel discussion and networking face-time to tackle this complex issue as one. Great event, looking forward to the next one." Dorothy Ng, Futures Centre.
"Behind the Label definitely opened my eyes .... about the production in the fashion industry." Suria Affiza , Fashion Designer
”The event left me with a deeper appreciation of the challenges faced and of the people working behind the scenes of the glamourous fashion industry.... On reflection , I ask : Are we consuming fashion too fast in the expense of humanity and ecological sustainability?” Dawn Seah, Fashion Designer
We would like to thank our partners, Fashion Revolution and OneMaker Group for making this possible. Special thanks go to Design Singapore Council for their support, and National Design Centre for hosting the event. A big thank you goes to all our volunteers who came to help out.
